demanded Brian's unwilling withdrawal and cautious retreat to Redhill Station. The rest pressed on to Outwood, Smallfield, Copthorne, Turner's Hill and West Hoathly. Here we stopped for a fleeting glimpse of the Priest House, being loth to pay a fee for entry to the house or garden. An impromptu exercise in democracy then led to a choice: pastoral calm or Armageddon. Two chose Armageddon; one we never saw again, lost somewhere in the depths of that cyclist's temptress, known starkly as "Cob Lane". The rest sailed serenely down through wood and field to stop at the Oak Inn, Ardingly, where a flushed and glowing Geoffrey awaited our arrival.Author: Jeff

Thank you again, Jeff (I hope you put in a good evening of CTC stirring) and apologies to Simon. On our way home down past Banstead Station, I remembered a short-cut towards Cheam, but Simon was out of ear-shot.

It was good to see at The Walled Garden that as we arrived a Huge tea pot was flled in anticipation of many mugs of tea!

A very enjoyable ride with some interesting new bits for me--the Thames tow path from Monkey Island into Eton, for example. Thank you Vic.

Thank you, Gill, for a very enjoyable ride that joined up several places that previously I held in separate parts of my mind. On the way home, I turned off at the Saab garage, met up with Brian going through Cobham and he and I made our way through Esher to Kingston. Brian carried on to Putney. The rain held off for me.

How many left at Horsham?
Mark G 14 April 2011 at 10:39 BST
Thirteen in, twelve out, Tony. It's all in the ride report now.
Tony 14 April 2011 at 10:46 BST
Nice one.

Mark,
Many thanks for a splendid ride that nudged the limits of our comfort zone. Sorry I couldn't stay for tea but my exeat expired at 6.30pm and I didn't want to be gated!

Three arrived late at Henfold and missed the group John, Bob & Will
Jeff 16 April 2011 at 13:36 BST
That's a shame - missed a good ride. But as Mark said on the blog:
"Here are the details:
0900 sharp leave North Cheam;
1045 sharp leave Henfold Lakes;
1315 Bridge Inn, Shoreham for Lunch;
1415 leave Shoreham;
1545 Tea at Horsham;
1815 Supper (for those who want it); Wetherspoons Leatherhead." There was a slight delay leaving Henfold when two of the gentlemen had cistern overflow problems and had to adjust the ballcock.
Your District Committee opposes the proposed conversion of the CTC into a full charity. You can still oppose the conversion by voting against Motion 1 on the voting form. Do not forget to put your signature in box 2a (beneath your membership number) and put a X in the appropriate box for Motion 1 in section 3, headed Charity Vote - Direct your proxy how to vote. The other blank columns are for family members, who may wish to vote differently from you.Author: Jeff

I have expressed my concern about this resignation. See comment on SWLDA Blog.
Julian 07 April 2011 at 14:12 BST
I agree with your comment on the DA blog, Mike, and I hope you have success in rooting out what is going wrong in detail. It is depressing that Councillors feel that they cannot hold the Club's management properly to account and believe they are being denied the information that they need.

Who were the puncture victims?
Julian 07 April 2011 at 14:07 BST
Thank you, Brian, for a very enjoyable, amazingly rural ride. It was just what I needed to start the long road back to some sort of fitness after missing quite a few rides recently. I turned off at West Horsley on the way home. At the Cobham end of The Drift Toni swooshed past from the railway bridge with a cheery wave. 60 miles for me door to door. Others will have done a good few more. .....Julian

Pete,
We only had one confirmed deflation - that was Peter Tiller. I have added his name to the hall of shame! The phantom will have to declare himself before we can acknowledge his existence.
