The ride from and back to Cobham is approx. 44 miles and 1800ft of ascent.
Lunch after 23.5 miles is at the Good Intent Puttenham. Unfortunately,
they require me to pre-order the food, but that should promote quicker service.
Tables in the garden cannot be reserved but should be available. The menu
appears more limited than previous years with only 3 sandwich choices, plus
other pub classics, but adults can also order smaller portion of alternatives
from the kids menu. NB The pub kitchen is open 12:00- 14:30.
The route includes two sections of hardpacked or gravel woodland
trails, all of which have been ridden on previous group rides. After an initial slog up Ranmore via Chalk lane and Green Dene, we cut “traffic free” from Staple Lane across to Guildford Pewsley Down
via Newland’s corner. I have done this often on 32mm road tyres with no problems.
From Pewsley to lunch its tarmac and a couple more hills (Farncombe and
Puttenham common).
From lunch to Cobham is much less hilly and mainly tarmac except for a mile
of dry gravel from Flexford to Wood Street.
We will hopefully have 3 sub-groups but currently only two subleaders.
My leisurely A/B group, target pace 11-12 mph (Strava moving
averages). A moderate 13 - 13.5 mph group
and a fast 14+ mph group.
If you want to join the ride, please apply to me by
email: dlferrett@hotmail.com by 6 pm on Monday
30 June with your food choice and your preferred ride pace (if any). If
you do not include your food choice, I will submit your choice as “no lunch”. If you are subsequently unable to attend
for whatever reason, it is your responsibility to advise (and potentially reimburse)
the Good Intent.
Further details, including .gpx route, groups start times
and your menu choices will be circulated on Tuesday morning.
